Unit 8: The Civil War; Causes, Course, & Effects
This unit focuses on the US Civil War. While we only focus on one country now rather than the entire Western hemisphere, we will go into far greater depth looking at the origins of the Civil War and the growing animosity between the North and South. We will examine how the issue of Westward Expansion impacted tensions in the country. We will also dive into the strengths and weaknesses of the Union and the Confederacy and look at the factors that affected the ultimate outcome of the war. Lastly, we will analyze Reconstruction and the political successes and failures during this key part of our country's history.
