Unit 2: European Contact & Conquest (1492-1600)
Our second unit will focus on the Americas as Europeans came to explore and eventually conquer, forever changing the landscape of the Western hemisphere. Some of this will hopefully be review from last year. But what will become the Columbian Exchange will be hugely negative in all aspects for the indigenous peoples of the Americas while Europeans will exploit the land, people, and begin to colonize in efforts to expand their territory and prestige. We will try to focus not just on the European side of these events, but on those native to the Americas and how they lived under these new conditions.
